Help! My Vauxhall Tigra fuel just keeps growling!!!!!

My Tigra has developed a fault. The fuel doesnt cut off the excellelator pedal and cable are ok (checked by the AA) but the engine is reving up to 4000rpm....Help! I can't stop! whats wrong with it?...
