need a visa or not

i got arrested 8 years ago and convicted for shoplifting and went court now i am planning to go to usa for holiday for 2 weeks i am british and got a british passport so do i still need a visa or not...

if somebody caught for theft and go to police station and they he paid penality fee and he get caution as well does it mean he got criminal record or not as far i know it will stay in police record...

i have got indian passport and i have been arrested for theft & i paid ?85 for tat i did't go to court just had police caution this is all two years back now want to go to usa and canada so it means...

two years ago i steal some makeup from the shop, shopkeeper saw me and he call the police then they took me to police station did my fingerprints and dna etc.etc they give me a caution and i paid ?85...
