I have a private number plate on my motorbike. It was on when I bought it. Friends say it may be worth selling given that I really don't value it and the price I paid for the bike was fair...

If i buy a car with a personalised numberplate is it possible to get the original car numberplate back from the DVLA? How much would this cost? I assume the car would come with the paperwork saying...

How does the new number plate system work? Why have they started at 50? Also, is there anywhere I can find out what prefixes are for what areas? How do they decide on the prefixes as well?
