Ubuntu/Windows xp

i have just installed windows xp, then checked it + worked fine, i then installed Linux Ubuntu so i can dual boot between the two. When i turn the computer on i get the selection of what OS to boot...

I am thinking about upgrading to Vista i have alot of software installed on my pc will it be compatible on vista? Also when up grading to vista do i delete my original windows files or does vista over...

I have a packard bell pc and would like to install some more RAM. How do i know what RAM i need as there are so many out there?? Also If i already have 512 installed and buy a 1GB will this mean that...
