can't record from sat

have sat decoder (not sky) scart vcr out connected to line in (decoder) on my dvd recorder and wanted to record some italian channels but all i'm getting is a black screen with kinda flickering...

How do i connect my tv, dvd recorder, freeview box, and satellite reveiver- all have 2 scarts. I want to be able to record from freeview or satellite. My recorder has its own digital tuner so maybe...
