Cleaning the iron

My poor, mortified, cleaning lady has managed to destroy a silk cami, and half of it is now welded to the bottom of the iron. Any ideas as to how I get it off please?...

I have started having problems with IE8, which has been running perfectly until a couple of days ago. I know a lot of people *** it off but I prefer it (without any problems) to Chrome and Firefox....
