I have been up in the Gwent Valleys all day, in glorious sunshine. The wild flower roundabouts and verges that the Councils have been planting up are still bursting with blooms and they look simply splendid...who would have thought they could look so good this late in the season !

Such a simple idea and such a marvelous display !

How can you be up in a valley?
Hi mikey, the council have done similar in my area, drifts of wild flowers in a kind of wave pattern. They're coming to an end now but looked beautiful.
I applaud councils that take the time to plant roundabouts with blooms - usually the 'naughty' boys and girls on community service that plant them round here, it does make for passing comment and it really does brighten up the place and for everyone's journey to work.
Might go 'guerilla gardening' with some daffodil bulbs on the green outside the house, but worried I might be fined if caught - has anyone tied a bit of guerilla gardening round their way?
*tried* - sorry, I'm knackered :-)
Do it in the dead of night, Peas. Then, no one will see you. :-)
What a great idea, I hope other councils will follow suit.
I think roundabouts are far better than boring traffic light junctions.
Hi peas x , never attempted that but ... go on .. I dare you! ;0)
Oh Tilly *waves* long time no see :-) hope all is well x
I think t'would be a bit obvious if the turf of the green were lifted and patted down right outside my house, so would have to do all around the green for everyone to benefit (you can imagine the operation - dressing-gown billowing in the wind, whilst trowels a-glint in the moonlight and the dog barks ominously at a random huddled character with paper bags of 'Suttons seeds' origin float soundlessly to the ground - a neighbour twitches the curtain and all is lost!) :-) I may get round to it one day this winter, but will have OH on standby should blue lights come around the corner!
Hey Lina x I'll send you the pics!
Yay!! :0) That'll brighten everyones day up!
:-)

Mikey - Is this the area in which you live or were you passing through today?
What type of flowers were there - I know the anemone's & foxgloves have surprised me by their longevity this year
We recently were in RoI and I was astounded by their roundabouts. Such beautiful displays amongst the verdant green of Ireland. IMO that cannot be beaten. (We drove through Wales to get the ferry and saw nothing that beautiful!)
Jackdaw - I have to admit that your comment made me laugh. Thanks.
Hey choux,
my most vivid gardening memory of the RoI was the amount of beautiful white calla lilly's growing out there. The climate must be agreeable for them - did you see any on your travels? I remember vividly a beautiful white cottage with a large bundle of them at the front and thought 'wow' (I don't do 'wow' often)
Peas - my 'wow' factor this year was alternate beds of double begonias - wine red and white. Magnificent :)
Choux :-) lovely!
