willow for shading

has anyone else an opinion on rolls of willow for shading on my pergola and will my plants grow through it?

In my humble opinion, others ma differ, a Willow is a good choice for shade, but you don't want it anywhere near the house, at least fifty foot away,(just an estimate), as they are very thirsty, and you'd have a problem with ground shrinkage.
My apologies, I misunderstood the question,

Willow or bamboo make exellent shading and fine stemmed climbers should have no problem growing through it. Good Luck barber.
