I bought a Candy Alise recently. I liked the idea it would tell me how long the programme still has to run. As far as I can work out all the programmes bar one take 90 minutes. Every programme I have selected lasts nearly 2.5 hours. In my book this is too long. The only other option is a 32 minute quick wash.
It also manages to turn everything inside out. Has anyone else got one of these machines?

I got a new machine 18 months ago - A++++ rating, big load etc and every single wash goes on for flipping ages, not one under an hour. Must be magically economical and 'green'.

Sher it is beyond a joke 2.5 hours though. I did phone the company when I got it as in the programme guide it didn't tell you how long it would take and how many rinses it gave, but all I was told was to try each programme out. I've tried about 4/5 so far and all 2.5 hours.
Caran I have a Zanussi washer, I tend to buy from the cheaper end of the market and if it goes wrong get another. I have Easymix 30 mins programme & a 20mins 5 shirts programme, both are okay for just me, but they don't take 30mins that one takes approx. 35 to 40 mins and the other one the same extra time.
I have tried turning the washing items inside out before I start hoping that in theory they would turn themselves the right way in the wash but they don't.
Caran, can you reduce the wash temperature? That will make the programmes shorter.

Tilly I use the 40 degree wash deliberatly to reduce the time.
I've had a quick look Caran - the indicator lights on the machine seem to mean "time remaining is at least" with 90 minutes being the maximum it can show.

So any program over 90 mins will show the 90 mins light to start - even if it is going to take 2 hours.

Modern machines are 'cold fill' - so have to heat all their own water - this always adds significantly to washing and rinsing times. Two hours is not unusual - my machine only gets under that if I select a 'quick wash'.

Thank you Dave. So really the start time is much more than 90 minutes. Strange it doesn't tell you in the hand book though.
My Miele machine (yes, I know, we have too much money!) can be customised by adjusting temperature, number of rinses, energy-save, etc and whole cycles can range from about 30 minutes up to nearly three hours ( the most frequently used cycle is "automatic-plus" which is about 1 hr 25 mins). The time-remaining display gives the exact time of the cycle to the minute.
(Don't forget that cotton washes take a lot more time (in general) than synthetic wash-cycles).
Caran.....Have you tried using the 30 degree wash,if your machine has this facility .? I have been using this setting for the last 12 months and have found the results to be satisfactory.

I don't have a "timer" on my machine as it is some 10 years old (a Bosch) but the 30 degree setting is materially faster than the higher settings. The results appear to be the same to me (but I am a man !). :-)

I'll give that a go SirOracle, it won't harm to try it. Thank you.
