Okay, they haven't yet. But ...

Tesco are going to stop selling Ribena and Capri-Sun, because they contain too much sugar, and Tesco care about their customers well being!

But 500ml of Ribena (diluted as directed on the label) contains 50g of sugar.

500ml of Coca Cola contains 53g of sugar.

No doubt Tesco will stick to their principles, and withdraw the world's biggest selling soft drink from their shelves.

Or are their "Token Gestures To Dupe Our Customers" Department all thinking "Oh, crap!" and trying to think of a way to back pedal.

the thinking is probably that Ribena is aimed at kids, Coke is aimed at adults who can better make informed choices.
It's only the lunchbox size they are discontinuing to sell.they will still sell the large bottles of ribena
Will they continue to sell cigarettes and alcohol which can do a lot more harm than sugary drinks if misused?
I see it was aimed at kids. I don't suppose many schoolchildren take ciggies or alcohol in their packed lunches.
Take away the safer version and leave the diet stuff full of its artificial this and that, I'd rather take the sugary stuff than that
How ridiculous! What about all of their fat, salt and sugar-laden ready meals, pizzas etc. which surely contribute to the unhealthy weight of many of the children and young women I see around (strangely, young men tend to be skinny).
It sounds like a sop to me.
So just sell low sugar or 0 sugar drinks laden with sacharrin, which is detrimental to health.
I wonder if there's a more realistic explanation like, the manufacturers of these soft drinks are refusing to lower their prices to Tesco.
They also sell "Sunny Delight" which my daft sister-in-law buys for her pampered, fussy and overweight kids.

Have anybody read the ingredients of Sunny Delight ? My nieces and nephews think its orange juice !
That stuff puts my teeth on edge.
If it's the lunchbox size Ribenas in cartons then I'm puzzled as I thought they came with straws which means they are less likely to cause damage to teeth. It's canned/bottled drinks such as Cola, Monster, RedBull that are more harmful and more attractive to kids/teenagers but I suppose they are more likely to be bought by kids at the corner shop than in a supermarket
If it is as you state then it does seem nonsensible to drop a product on health reason for the amount of sugar it has in it's purchased state. It should be judged on it's consumed state.

For sure folk could swig it neat if they desired; but there again, they could open a bag of sugar and scoff that neat too, if they wished. Are Tesco planning to stop selling bags of sugar because it contains 1kg of sugar per kilogram bag ?
Ah if it is ready made stuff that could be a different matter.
