Hi kissable_moi. I've been on Prozac since last September and find that I've been fine. I've been on them before as well - no probs. I had a period of being really down and the doc just doubled the dosage to 2 a day. I really wanted to be off them by now but if I go back to 1 a day the depression comes back so I'm obviously not ready. Hope you're having a good day.

Take care of yourself - Elaine x

i have been on 80mg of fluoxetine a day and i hqave been fine

when i DONT take them for a week i get a migrane and sickness

i find they really help xx

sorry meant to say i have been takin them for 4 yrs and its ok, no side effects while being on them

Hi km

I was on it for 18 months - the only side affect I had was excessive sweating, which apparently can happen and is a known side-affect. (nice huh?!)

I found they took away the highs and the lows of my depression and levelled me out at a middle level that was livable.

However, I've been off them now for 3 years and so far so good! And when I stopped taking them I felt better than I had for years - but there were many factors behind that than just the pills!

I wish you all the best!

better to do without them if at all possible x

kissable-moib i was prescribed them some years ago having had similar prescription drugs before for anxiety/depression. i took them for about 9 days and begged my doctor to take me off them as i felt more anxious etc than i had before. i took and have taken on and off since, paroxetine (seroxat) and these suit me better. Even so, for the first 2 weeks of taking these I also felt more anxious, couldn't eat etc.

have you been prescribed them for depression or anxiety or panic attax or is it for someone else? :) x

Question Author
yep it is for depression
I think it depends on the individual kissable. Prozac like all ssri's can allieviate depression and anxiety but for many the side effects outweigh the good. The withdrawal from any ssri or snri should be done slowly under medical supervision. Seroxat has now been verified as being a defective drug. I have been on it for over 3 years, currently reducing by using the liquid Seroxat but the withdrawal effects are horrid. Please dont ever stop the Prozac abrubtly, likwise Seroxat or any ssri. I rue the day I ever took that 1st tablet. x

FINA, gosh you have me worried now, what do you mean about seroxat? is it the actual drug peroxatine or seroxat the brand?

mine was mainly for anxiety/panic attax not depression kissable so maybe thats why it didnt work for me but good luck sweetie :) x

poglet. Im sorry for worrying you. People have been known to withdraw from Seroxat with success but sadly its a minority. Seroxat,Paroxetine,Paxil etc are all the same drug. Glaxo Smith Kline were the original manufacturer's so the others are generic. If you ever have any problems with seroxat please dont hesitate to join the only support and litigation group in the UK for advice and support. [email protected] Im one of the moderators:-))
Hi bellasasha, Sorry to butt in, those migraines and the nausea you experience when leaving off the Fluoxetine are symptoms of withdrawal. Do you find they disappear when you take the tabs again? x

FINA -this seroxat thing is worrying me now. i have come off them before but it took a long time, very very gradual, i got little tingly feelings.

what are your withdrawal symptoms and what dosage were you on. and where do you get the liquid from?

I took fluoxetine for depression for just a couple of weeks as it disturbed my sleep so badly. The other side effect I had was extreme thirst. I switched to paroxetine/Seroxat which I took for about 5 years with absolutely no problems whatsoever. When I decided the time was right, I came off Seroxat very slowly, switching from 20mg a day, to 20mg every other day for about a month, then every 3 days etc. Slowly, slowly does it and I had no problems at all. That was 5 years ago, and I have been living a happy fulfilled life ever since. Seroxat saved my life!

Took fluoxetine for two years, and found it to be very useful. Initial side effects I found were nausea, anxiety, muscle aches and migraines. They gradually lessened over an 8 week period.

When reducing dose/stopping I found my side effects to be lethargy, migraines and dizziness. Im now 8 weeks approx after stopping, and no side effects. I feel great and think fluoxetine was definately the right treatment for me. It balanced me out mentally so I was a able to respond much better to counselling.
