I have just come in from a long walk and have treated myself to a couple of warmed, buttered North Staffordshire oatcakes. Only those of you, who also eat them, will know what a pleasure that was.

i've had oatcakes a few times, they are very nice. i have salad for lunch and whilst its very nice i wish id packed something hot as its gone very chilly!
They're even better fried in bacon fat. Not very good for the heart though:-(
So that's why you're heartless.....
Anyhoo Yilly, how do you manage to get Stoke type things ( oat cakes ) South of Watford gap !.
As a Stokie, I know exactly what you mean!
I've just about got a pulse, ummm
So, are they usually eaten hot ?
Gently lard fried sliced puffball with stream flow watercress for brunch. Tonight wild rabbit casserole to share with dog that brought it down, tho dog will only get bones. Free living for the taking ;)
Bacon Cheese and tinned tomatoes grilled. With warm oatcakes. Mmmmm
There is a firm in Chesterton , Newcastle, North Staffs (About 160 miles from my home ) that is supplying a major Supermarket with Oatcakes. Consequently, it is only a six mile journey for me to purchase the delicious items.

My wife and I had a few each last night, wrapped around hot sausages. Gretel likes her's rolled with the addition of grated cheese and then popped in the Microwave for a minute and a half; whereas I will spread pickle or Tomato Sauce on mine.

Incidentally, my Mother-in-law was born in Hanley and, together with my wife, the three of us regularly spent holidays in the beautiful countryside of North Staffordshire and visited relatives who were still living there. Unfortunately, my wonderful mother-in-law died at the age of 97 and our trips to 'the Potteries came to an end.

Hans.

I am glad to see that others know the delight of a couple of warmed oatcakes.
I have lots of visitors who always come laden with oatcakes. They freeze very well.
Unfortunately, none of the major supermarkets around here sell them.

Rabbit casserole sounds nice, Tambo. Especially wild rabbit.
bit like people south if Watford have never heard of chitterlings, black pudding etc..
Question Author
Well, I don't eat chitterlings, beegeebee...........or tripe......or sweetbreads.

I do like a bit of raw black pudding though.
Mm, melv that's one of the best ways, I also like them filled with grated cheese, rolled and popped in the microwave for 20 seconds. My daughter can buy them in London from a major supermarket, she likes them as a wrap for sausage or bacon.
Quite happy with marmite toast
