Some on here appear to think that the so called IS is striving for an 'Islamic' state as such, but its motives are more political than religious. The fight is between Sunni and Shia factions, the predominantly Sunni's wishing to totally eliminate the Shias (and vice versa) something which seems to be ignored by most British media. A reasonably good clarification of this can be found here;

It only affects me insofar as I don't like being at outs with anyone if it can be avoided.
