What happened to pronunciation? On the BBC now, the presenters insert an 'R' where there isn't one e.g. Grarss, blarst, parst, marster, barth, glarss etc.


What's this all about? Is there no such thing as a bath any more? Or a glass door? Or a grass verge?

Think you are right about the RP thing pleasehelp87, I remember my sister telling me about it when she studied it at school.
I am probably too late to join in but can anybody explain or justify why the word ASK now seems to be pronounced AXE. As in AXE me a question. This is coloquialism gone 'darft' !!!

Personal pet peeve - people saying 'of' when they mean 'have', as in 'I should of gone wiv 'er!' or 'you couldn't of done that'

sawwy. i come from a famous old mining town where the local traite is not being able to pronounce the letter 'R' . maybe the beeb is trying to display perfect spoken english. anyway i'm off to telly to watch WAMBO now. Ta' .
