My microwave is getting old, and was thinking of one with a grill, nothing to expensive as its only for me to use.

Are the grills much use, like for sausages, bacon, toasted sarnies etc?

Yes, Much use.
I have mine for some years now. Tesco own brand.
For sausages, bacon, black pudding etc.
I do not know if they cook sarnies.
I have had a super Microwave, by Hitachi, for nearly 25 years now. It big inside and is easy to operate. Its also has a Halogen grill. I can honestly say that I have never used this facility more than 10 times in 25 years !

Its not very efficient and makes a nasty mess on the roof of the inside of the Microwave, which is a devil to clean.

However, you can get genuine "combination" Microwave ovens, which have an electric element instead of the halogen thingy, but I have never used one, so can't really comment. But I would imagine that they are just as awkward to clean as the halogen one.

But I will stick my head out here and suggest that they will probably never be as good as the grill on your cooker !

By the way, I have heard nothing but praise for those Coleman Grill things, and if I had more room in my kitchen, I might treat myself. Everybody says that they are easy to clean and produce good healthy grilled foods.

I hope all this has been of some help Rtaxron !

Yes, thank you, Scorpiojo, I did.
depends if you grill alot I suppose

I went in for a microwave and aksed about all dinging and dancing version and the fella said - "research has shown that at least 95% of uses of a microwave are one and two minute reheats, so get the cheapest and simplest"

and I did !
I agree with Peter P
I'm still trying to find out how to use the grill function! (4 years and counting.)
i had a combination micro and whilst I used the oven and microwave did not use grill often.not as good as the grill on normal cooker
I have a Russell Hobbs cooker grill etc. The grill is very slow so I don't use it much, you would better with a George Forman grill or similar cooks sausages toasties meat etc!

Thanks folks, looks like a waste of time, so will buy just an ordinary micro as I have a similar G/F grill.
Another here .. combo .. have hardly used the grill on it.
'Combi'
never used the grill and I bought two combi - never again - ordinary microwave next time for me.
I use the combi (microwave and grill) setting about half the time I use the microwave. excellent for heating up pies, croissants, pain au raisin etc. in fact anything where you don't want a soggy top. Good for warming up pizzas and making cheese on toast too.
