28ac Eatable grass in some places eastward with no filling item on menu,(6)

I have e?d?s?
Both eaddish and eddish refer to edible mown grass.
The first is an obsolete version of the second.
The clue as written does not help me to distinguish the "correct" answer.
Help please.

If you take the filling/middle out of the word 'eastward' you get 'ed', then add 'dish' - a possibility.
.... but 'eaddish' has (7) letters?

My careless mistake. The choices are eadish and eddish.

Neveracrossword's explanation of EDDISH looks okay to me
Then I agree with Neveracrossword's parsing

Thanks all. I'll go for it.
