No response yet from the head of the 'defence league'.
Few accept your explanation Jim because sexism and racism is a wider issue than mere institutions. Since an individual is not an institution they can not claim immunity from their wrongdoing be trying to make out it only applies to institutions. It's a very weak attempt at excusing her demand that white men can not attend, something which is patently both sexist and racist.
I bet if someone used 'kill all black men#'* they'd find themselves in hot water pretty sharpish.
*obviously not in the context I've used it. (I hope)
AOG - //No response yet from the head of the 'defence league'. //

Who is that please?
I've asked this before and I will ask again.

women of colour .....people of colour

if this is ok what was so bad about using 'coloured'?

AOG... well thanks for lumping me in with this woman... What I was trying to point out was that what she meant was different from how it's being interpreted. Beyond that I have no intentions of defending her, or of associating myself with that view. As it happens I completely disagree with the implicit "downgrading" of female-male sexism that's implicit in her choice of definition. So the rather pathetic attack is also totally misdirected.

Incidentally, if you meant me when you talked about the "head of the defence league", I was busy yesterday and never had a look at this thread -- assuming that the conversation was over. Apparently not, if you feel a need to lay into me for attempting to explain, but absolutely not excuse, another person's words.

OG -- people can accept or reject my explanation at their leisure, but it remains the correct interpretation of her use of "sexism". As far as I'm concerned, sexism means the same to me as it does to anyone else at AB, and it should stay that way. This woman has therefore, in my dictionary, been sexist and racist. All I am trying to say is that her dictionary is different, and you should use that one when interpreting her words.
According to what she's said, she and her cohorts can simply play the race card and abuse us as much as they like

Multiculturalism doesn't work
//her dictionary is different, and you should use that one when interpreting her words. //

No, she should use the dictionary that everyone else uses.
Maybe she should, but she, and many others, don't in this case. It's better seen as a "technical" use of the word -- and better still seen as "wrong" -- but it's in that context that her "I'm not sexist" statement should be taken. It's not uncommon for words to mean different things to different people , and this is another of those occasions.

Jim, it's claptrap. She said what she said.
I don't understand why it's such a problem to accept that some people use words in a different way from others. It happens all the time, and it's happened again here.

When she says "I'm not sexist" she means it in a fundamentally different way from you saying "I'm not sexist".
So she means she is sexist?

Funny that I am never defended in such a way, much easier it seems for some to label me 'sexist' 'racist' 'homophobic' 'bigoted' 'islamophobic' 'Xenophobic' along with 'the apparent complete non-recognition of the underprivileged in our society'.
@ Naomi, Ha Ha....It seems that some people don't mean what they say and others do. It is pretty easy to tell which is which..
