The Road Steward for our road (24 houses) suggested to me how easy how easy he could have used some of the votes of other people living in our road. He knows everybody's name and if they were intending not to vote or were away and not using a postal vote. When he went to the polling station on Election day he did not have to produce his Polling Card and was not asked for photo I.D.
I think security should be tightened up in elections as the voting in Tower Hamlets showed that corruption is rife in certain parts of the country.
If this country is to solve the illegal immigration problem a start could be made by introducing a National Registration Identity Card .

// Everyone gets a voting card, it can't be that difficult to have a hand it back to get a vote system.// no Geez - that is an obstacle to allowing people to vote and the whole point is to get em in their voting so it is made easy and there are other checks to fraud

// there voting // ^^^^^

an early sweet sherry coming out
I posted a thread on this very subject on Election day - I didn't have to supply any sort of identification whatsoever to the election officer. I was simply asked for my address and then my name.
Mikey - I presume if you weren't keen on Road Stewards you wouldn't be a member of the Residents Association.
rsvp - it was on your thread they pointed out that the voting officer has to stay there the whole time ?

also in Manchester I found that the nearest polling station was NOT the correct one for me - it is possible that this is intentional
Is road steward a bit like being a milk monitor?
More like a prefect, Hopkirk ;-)

I didn't have to produce any ID to vote including my Polling Card.
Ah yes. Out of my league.

I was milk monitor, but no way would I have made prefect so I can't be a road steward.
Being a milk monitor had it's perks though, Hopkirk.
