Eight years ago I was diagnosed with a grade 3 breast cancer tumour, was treated, and beat it.

A friend of mine is now in desperate need of a kidney transplant.

Thing is now, the blood donor people said that i cant give blood. Am I being daft in wondering if I could be tested as a tissue match for my friend?

People who have had cancer can donate organs, Peachy but it very much depends on the type of cancer and how far it had spread.

Breast cancer is one of the high risk cancers but if you have been cancer free for over five years you may still be considered.....

You can only know for sure by asking at the kidney clinic....and then of course many other factors have to be considered....it's a long haul...or it was when we were involved......good luck....it's a wonderful thing to do....x

Methyl. Both chemo and radio therapies.
Gness. Yes, it's worth a try.
What a lovely gesture Peachy.
Yes you could be assessed for a kidney match but it would be purely academic as it is extremely unlikely that your organ would used as you have had extensive albeit successful treatment for malignant disease.

Peter Pedant,s link says it all.........nice gesture though.
A simple answer to your question is no, you would not be able to be tested as a possible match.

I have been trying today to find out. Believe it or not, I was passed from pillar to post trying to get a definitive answer (8 different phone numbers, including the Royal Free Hospital!). Will keep trying though. Thanks to everyone who's replied!
peachy, my answer was short and to the point with no waffle.
NO, you will not be considered.
(I am 100% on this as I know someone in the identical situation to you).
