I have just tried to order some groceries (that I have had before) from one of the big supermarkets that shall remain nameless but "every little helps" only to find that certain brands have been removed from sale such as R*se's lime cordial, sch you know who's tonic water and ginger ale, certain canned soups, beans and pasta sauces all of these are readily available from other supermarkets but have been withdrawn from sale by this market leader, why? what is going on

I don't know but you are allowed to say Tesco.
I've heard that after a terrible set of results their new boss is reducing the ranges available, as it just confuses people and brings no benefit to the shop. So that (if it's true) is a possibility.

There is more than that going on, I have just complained to the supermarket concerned and this is their reply............................................................... I was sorry to learn that you have been left feeling unhappy with a number of items being discontinued in our stores. I can appreciate your upset, especially as the R*ses Lime Cordial is now unavaialble, yet available in other retailers stores.
Due to an interruption of service, we are temporarily adjusting our soft drinks, canned soup, canned beans, pasta and sauces ranges to help maintain the best possible range for our customers.

I never shop in Tesco but called in yesterday on my way back from somewhere and was very disappointed and a bit amazed actually at their lack of choice. Also they had a few displays with 'everything a pound' which seemed a bit desperate.
Since Poundland opened in our town Asda are selling many lines at 97p and 98p. I think they must all be struggling to keep customers.

If they are having business problems it couldn't happen to nicer people, for years they have had it all their own way without a care for who they stepped on, they say that it all comes back to haunt you in the end.
I have found recently that you can't always get certain items online, but if you go into the shop they are on the shelf. They are good at only offering you the dearer options instead.

It would appear that some suppliers are refusing to supply this supermarket with their goods.
Have you got a link to that, secsee?

You can't buy Rose's cordials in Aldi or Lidl and I'm not sure you can buy Schweppes from the discount stores either.

I really can't imagine any manufacturer or wholesaler refusing to supply Tesco or any other major outlet.
Tesco have withdrawn certain brands because they are in dispute with manufacturers over price.
Tesco are notorious for late payments to suppliers. I think some of them are now refusing to supply Tesco unless they get paid on time. It was reported that Tesco keep some suppliers waiting over 6 months for payment. They just assume they are so big they can do as they like. Now that Tesco are losing trade they are probably trying to extend payment times even more and the suppliers have finally had enough.
Profits might be down but they're hardly skint!
In my experience if there is a brand or product I particularly like, sooner or later the stocks get run down and one can not get that brand any more.

If you write to the manufacturer they say they are still producing/selling, and give you a possible retail place miles & miles away that you will not be interested in making a trip to.

Seems to be the normal practice as retailers play manufacturers against each other, and replace lower selling or profit brands of good quality with more 'stack them high and charge low but rip off prices' items instead.
There's nothing in that link that says suppliers are refusing to supply Tesco.
All the major retailers of everything try to beat down the prices they have to pay.
Try Sainsbury's, they have a wider range of goods.
The trick is to not become a slave to big brands...nor shop with retailers that you don't think much of (which the OP seems to do).
