LOL ;-), Dorset ain't bad either.
Me likes Perth
Devon - lovely place

but I had to go where the jobs are ( Manchester )
Question Author
I wouldnt go to live in any city, ever! there are jobs outside of the city, just not as well paid, its just something I am happy to forfeit for the safety and tranquillity of a quieter life.

PP - what 'was' your job?

You seem to know an awful lot about a lot of things. You seem to remember an awful lot.

I have an awful memory - not helped by a Bipolar/Lithium combination. Facts go into my brain and are never seen again.
Don't blame you, RATTER.
I say to people that I live in the city centre. To live in the centre of one of the big cities is nothing like living in the centre of a place like Perth (about 45,000).

The village I live in has a population of 400 :-) We do however have quite a busy garage/shop and a barbers, but no pub!
Ratter ...lol !

Actually, I spent untold weeks in Devon as a child in the 50's and 60's. My mothers side of the family were Daveys and they all came from Exminster. My Mum, although born in London, as I was, spent a lot of childhood staying with her Aunts in Exminster, as she was evacuated there in 1939. I have managed to find the grave of my great grandmother, in the graveyard of the Church.

So I know Dartmoor like the back of my hand and love it dearly. As regards Cornwall, there is a saying printed on the wall of the Cafe in the Eden Project, that goes something like this ::

" It is said that the Devil never ventured across the Tamar into Cornwall, as he had heard that those Cornish housewives would put anything into a Pasty, and he didn't want to take the chance ! "

I am sure you have heard that in Devon, the cream is put on top of the scone and then the jam, but it Cornwall, the jam goes on first and then the cream. The reason for this amongst good Cornishmen is that they are ashamed of their cream in Devon, and therefore wish to hide it !
I wish I lived in Devon, it seems lovely.
I love Devon. I have lived in Plymouth and Totnes and would happily go back to either of them (preferably Totnes) if things went wrong here.
There`s a big difference between North Devon and South Devon - they`re completely different and most of the time when people think of Devon, they think of the south. I prefer the north..
What a load of ***......voted best place to live in the UK by a few readers of a high-brow magazine

Next week readers of 'Geordie Weekly' vote Newcastle officially the best place to live in the UK
Actually Newcastle is quite popular with students who have studied there. The time to worry is when the Mackem Weekly gives Sunderland top place.
OH's family all live in Devon - it's gorgeous, no problem with that. I, on the other hand, hail from God's REAL county which is Yorkshire (sorry Mikey - you can retire on this one) without any arguments. (OK I Have my hands over my head.) Back to sanity; it's a long way to visit family, but I do find a lot of similarities between the two counties and the personalities which they breed.
Yorkshire born and Yorkshire bred,
Strong i' the arm and' thick i' the head

(I've got my coat).
"I do find a lot of similarities between the two counties and the personalities that they breed" I can`t find any similarities between Devon people and Yorkshire poeple TBH
Maybe you don't know enough of them 237SJ ;)
Hope the coat is thick enough to keep out the weather JACKDAW!

Mikey, I lived very close to Exminster, I lived in Starcross and Dawlish just a few miles away, I know it very well.

As for //I am sure you have heard that in Devon, the cream is put on top of the scone and then the jam, but it Cornwall, the jam goes on first and then the cream. The reason for this amongst good Cornishmen is that they are ashamed of their cream in Devon, and therefore wish to hide it !//

No never heard that, I know the thing about cream on top etc, but in fact both counties generally put the cream on first, its just easier and makes more sense lol.
