Enjoyable medium standard puzzle. The rubric suggested it would be so.
Good fun indeed. The theme has certainly been tackled before, but not (I think) in The Listener series. Only a couple of weeks ago I had looked up the doubtful association in the BRB after staring out of the window for a while. Life is full of Coincidences.

Speaking of which ... yes, the editors must certainly have been trying to avoid a fuss. What a let-down after I'd spent so long working out the logic of my vertical alignment and convincing myself it was the only one that met all the conditions in the preamble. Dave Hennings has put forward a *fourth* possibility in his LWO blog!

An enjoyable and relatively easy ride, but it suffered from the fact that once the theme had been found, answers came in too much of a rush. It took me a while to figure out the definition of 8d, and it wasn't until the very end that I found the unclued entry which wasn't in the usual sources. The BRB came to the rescue.
Yes, straightforward enough, but even here there could be a trap for the unwary at 2 across.
Similar fare to the previous puzzles this year - coffee break/extended coffee break. Why do people always thank the setter ? He never thanks the solvers, yet solvers to him are as important as a setter is to solvers.
