We were having a discussion tonight in the Fusion household with friends about naming babies after a family member and most of all dead family members.

I am against this and think all babies should have their own identities and names and not be for instance, John Jnr or John Snr etc etc.

Our names are quite similar.

It's funny though, I don't dislike my name when I meet or here someone else with it.

The only people that call me by my full name is Ginge and my son.
Even though they're similar, your's doesn't have that 'ouch factor' ;)
We'll just call you Treacle :-)
That'll do for me ;)
names are odd. \I grew up hating my name because it was very common at my school (7 other Bednobs' in my year (and there are several on here too!).
However, when it came to chosing a name for our babies, i got a new respect for my parents - it's sooooooo hard naming a child!
Far better to be named after a family member than have a name which your parents simply made up which seems to be the norm these days

///Three PMs of the 20C were all known by their middle names: MacMillan, Wilson and Callaghan///

... and Hilda Margaret Thatcher.
