Why does M&S label avocados as ready to eat when they are as hard as rocks when one gets them home and unpacks them? Oh, and the best before date is the following day when they are still inedible?

If you leave them at room temperature for a day they will be ready to eat.

Tried that. No way. The label says ready to eat.
put them on your kitchen window for a few days.

You are missing the point. The label says ready to eat,
Putting the avo next to a banana helps but does not answer my original question.
in answer to your question.... I don't know daisy,
I agree Daisy...they are rarely ready. 2-3 days needed...as opposed to a week ;-)
You could always take them back to M&S and ask them to try and eat them.

There is actually a person with whom the buck stops?
Yes there is Daisynonna. It's the poor sod who has to face your wrath at the customer service counter.
There things do get passed on, believe me, though honestly, is this the biggest bother in your life right now?
M&S have to please millions so they try to find a middle ground. most of the time.
Avos, like pears tend to be either concrete texture or mushy krap. There never seems to be just the right minute to catch them as being remotely edible.
I blame their over refrigeration, its bleedin freezing in there. The sandwiches are inedible and flavourless because they are too cold and the fruit is hard as rocks. I like their packaged food but I don't tend to buy the fresh stuff unless its a heat wave and I want freezing cold fruit.

Other shops sell ready to eat avos which are usually just right. And the staff don't need to wear gloves and body warmers all day.
Try Aldi's instead.
They are usually spot-on.
I get tired at paying a premium for the ready to eat avocados when they are not anywhere near ready to eat.

I'm also baffled how they can have a three days to run before they reach their best before date if they are ready to eat???
I get mine 4 for a £1 from the local market. They are usually ripe and ready to eat although they wouldn`t last for a few days but even if I have to throw 2 of them away, that`s still cheaper than paying premium prices in the supermarket for 1 avocado that is too hard to use.
