Does anyone know how I can access historical information about the town of Cheddar in Somerset? I'm looking for a farm in Cheddar called Church Farm and doesn't appear on current or older maps.

This is on the south side ogf Cheddar, not the gorge side of town.

http://www.cheddarsomerset.co.uk/History/Cheddar%20History.htm for history of the town, and there is a message board on the site that you can request some info, but I'm not sure it is visited very often.

Easiest thing may be just call the tourist office there: Cheddar Tourist Information Centre
The Gorge

Hi Wessex. Thanks for your interest. We've been tracing our family tree and have found connections with HYDE, or JEFFERIES,or PAVEY or BRANCH and a church farm in Cheddar. We know the Hyde's were farmers and had about 80 acres of land in Cheddar, and we don't know if the land changed hands over time, but we believe the land to have been known as Church Farm,

Thanks for explaining your interest in Church Farm. Like you I have been researching family history, some in Cheddar. (Unfortunately no matches to your names). I know Church Farm was owned by the ROGERS family for some years. If you log onto the website of the Somerset & Dorset Family History Society www.sdfhs.org and go to the Members Interests page you will find an entry for ROGERS Cheddar and details of how to contact the society member posting that entry. You should be able to get some helpful information from them.
