..and why does it always happen in December?
I don't know. I don't get colds, nor do my kids.
Me too - I sat next to a bloke at West Ham on Sunday who was blowing his nose all through the game - I'm blaming him!
Try to remember never to touch your face with your hands unless you have just washed them. Try to wear gloves whenever appropriate. Try not to grip doorhandles or bannister rails with bare hands, or other things which many people touch with bare hands. Push doors with your shoulder when pushing is required to open them.
Those precautions might help avoid some germs in future.
Oh, and don't kiss anyone, either.
carry a small bottle of antiseptic spray with you and use after contact with people . door handles etc.
I get colds two or three times a year and I always seem to get one around Christmas time. Last week I sat next to someone on the bus who was coughing their guts out, and my manager has been off sick with a cold as well and he was sat next to me on Monday!

I've also had flu several time in my life as well. Completely knocked me out.
I think it's almost unavoidable if you are out and about. I have only socialised in peoples' houses this week and yet I've caught it. It's a stinker and I'm supposed to be flying home from the States later (if we can get away) and I'm dreading what that's going to do to my ears as they are completely blocked.
I complained to the checkout staff supervisor in Morrison's today. The girl at the checkout had a streaming cold and she was coughing and spluttering all over my purchases. I said to her, 'You shouldn't be at work' and she replied that she had had yesterday off and nearly didn't turn up for work today.

I wanted to say to her, 'Don't touch my stuff'. but it wasn't really practical. So I had a good old moan at the supervisor, pointing out how unpleasant it was.

I should have asked what the policy on being at work, serving customers, when you have a dreadful cold.......but I didn't.
I fully agree with Atlanta re door handles etc, if I'm not wearing gloves, I use a tissue or the corner of my jacket.
I don't get colds either, I used to get them a lot when I was in my 20s, my last one was 4 years ago. If I get a hint of one, like the soreness at the back of the nose, or throat, I take an antihistamine, that usually works wonders !
I also can't stress enough that you must wash your hands often and as Atlanta rightly points out don't touch your face if you can help it.
When people are coughing in your face, it's difficult to protect yourself.

Coughs and sneezes
Spread diseases
Catch your germs in a handkerchief!
