I am lifting this straight from todays letter page in todays Guardian ::::

" I had the pleasure of meeting Alan Johnson last week, at a literary festival.
In front of a packed audience, he reiterated his support for Ed Miliband and his decision not to return to frontline politics. I asked him, when he signed my book, if a film was made of his life, who would he like to play him.

Quick as a flash : "George Clooney, if he tidies himself up" came the reply. Now here is a politician that doesn't take himself too seriously"

Its seems we will be missing a great wit in Number Ten in the future, as well as a great Labour PM..

I totally agree Mikey. Mr Johnson would be my first choice but it seems as though he has completely ruled out a return to the front line. Pity really. What a waste of a talent.

I hadnt realised that Ed Milliband was IN politics let alone he had decided not to return to it...

Question Author
Quick-ish PP but not half as funny as Mr J !
At present he's not in politics. He's in the business of damage limitation one feels!
So , that's what passing as wit , nowadays ?
He always appears to be a genuine human being therefore far too good for politics compared with what we have.
