Our 3 year old has toys made out of all sorts of materials.Wood,plastic,metal,MDF,paper/card,cloth,combinations of all or some of the previous.

icecold, do I understand that you want to make toys for a child? If ypou are making them for your own children, then there are loads of good books and web sites. If ypou are making them to sell, even through charities, they need to coply with toy safety regs. Ask your local trading standards officer for details

its for a project and i dont know where to start =(
I am sure that your local trading standards dept will have a leaflet about requirements for children's toys which would give you some ideas on the safety aspects. Could you go to a local primary school or play group and ask the kids to help you with the design work, or do you have a small relative or neighbout to help you with ideas. Theres a guy called Bill Blezzard, your library would probably have his books in the DIY section who tells how to make wooden kids toys...hope this is helpful
