Just had my very first Colonoscopy. I decided to have it done without sedation. The whole procedure took an hour and 20 minutes. The camera man couldn't get a valve open so I had to keep rolling over. I was reading about other peoples experiences and most of them said they got embarrassed by passing wind. I was the opposite - it was amusing.

My colon is fine however they are order another CT scan.

jomifl: Not passing wind is the opposite. If you physically can't pass wind then chances are you have trapped wind accompanied with abdominal pains.
It is getting around the corners ( splenic and hepatic flexures in formal speak) that makes the patients/consumers jump.

I dont have either after a hemicolectomy - but anyway you deserve a good star for the fridge Dizzie.

Dont mean to be nosey with the wind you were emitting
but why did you have one ?
Anyway CT scan is straightforward by compariison

Peter Pedant: They suspected cancer. I've had 5 CT scans this year already. I'm going to be Mr Radioactive Man by the time they've done with me.
I think the worst part is the effects of the disgusting medicine you have to take beforehand. Don't know if they still use the same stuff now as I did have mine years ago.

glenbar: I don't know if it's the same but it's equally disgusting. I had to mix it with lime cordial (a suggestion made on the leaflet). I had to drink 4 litres of the stuff :(

....and people think Sando K (Potassium) and Magnesium soluble tablets are horrible to drink. I'd quite happily drink 20 litres of Sando K instead of Klean Prep.

Mosaic: I have proper 'bum wipes' ;) and cleaning cream. The perks of dying twice in hospital last Christmas - you get given loads of goodies as a thank you for staying alive.

the other stuff is picolax - rips your bum apart
Blimey, I'm off to eat my tea.
Question Author
Peter Pendant: I didn't have a PEG. Just a long and painful Colonoscopy
Glad you got it done Diz,with humour intact and good luck for the CT too.

I think Peter refers to PEG (POLYETHYLENE GLYCOL) laxative.
