I can't stand spiders, despise them. Anything that scuttles about can't be good, not so bad with rest of the creepies but can't cope with 8-legged creatures!

So why do more women hate them, are you a man, what was you answer?

I think a lot of men hate em too but just dont admit it. Years ago when my daughter was small there was a huge spider on her bedroom wall. My then boyfriend acted all macho (I was hopping up and down outside the door) He reached up to knock the spider to the floor so he could squash it but instead it fell down his tshirt sleeve. He started screaming like a girl and charging round the room trying to rip off his tshirt like a nutter. I was howling. This is a guy who wasnt scared of spiders, or so he said.

Hi sav, long time no see. Im the same as you, creepy crawlies dont bother me too much, but if they have 8 legs Im gone.

Yes I am a Man. Pointing out that creepy crawlies are scary to Blokes also. Your question is based on your opinion, so stop being so pedantic.

when i was a kid my dad got all the spiders in the house he would say they wont hurt you and there is nothing to be scared of and i idolised him because he was sooo brave (or so i thought) my mum told me years later that he was petrified but didnt want me to grow up fearing them so he pretented for years he wasnt scared, my mum said as soon as i was out of eyeshot he was squirming and shaking for hours later and used to dread it if i found one

Hi Pixi

I was just asking a question, how am I supposed to know you're a man. Is everybody stressed today? :-)

im not stressed 4getmenot :)

Maybe the same percentage of men are afraid as women? It may just be that most men dont admit it because they imagine women will see it as a weakness.

I must admit that I always ask a bloke to get rid of huge spiders etc even though it has been known that the man is more afraid of the spider than i am

My wife is petrified of any spider bigger than a grain of salt, whereas I despise snakes. I'd rather take care of a rogue spider (providing it doesn't bite) for the wife than see a snake on the TV. Brrr, makes me shudder just thinking about it.

I feel it must be a stereotype that is taught to us as children (thinking books like little miss muffet), Im not sure where all the teaching takes place (but I suspect all the major institutions: family, school, churches etc) but see a parallel in the way that that girls are meant to like pink and boys blue, or girls play with dolls boys play with guns, girls dont like sport and boys love it, though these are clearly stereotypes they are mostly true as I feel we all too often slip into the roles that society has made for us in this case girls get your dad to get rid of the spiders and dads even if afraid do it with steel in their eyes as they feel that this is there role in the world.
I am terrified of spiders, but my husband is very brave & lets them crawl all over his face, the bigger the better! It keeps the Grandchildren amused too!!!!
