Yes I think you are, there is a much larger chance of your children dying from being knocked down by a car when crossing the road to the park!
I feel you are being overcautious but thats my opinion. They are your children and if you are worried then I suggest you find out more about how it is actually transmitted first.
My mother doesnt want to buy anymore chicken.

This needs to be sorted quickly by the people in the know b4 everyone reacts by staying away from farms, lakes eating fowl etc.
Im not going to stop doing anything. Its media hype and misunderstanding.
I agree we need to know more, but who's going to tell us? The government, like they told us about Mad Cow Disease????
Humans have to actually touch an infected bird and even then the likelihood of getting bird flu is really unlikely If ever you should see a dead bird, the first rule is don't let the children touch it and neither should you of course, but it's more likely the kids will try to. "look what i found mum" as mums (and grannies) go into hysterics.
From what i understand the people who have contracted it so far have all had prolonged exposure to diseased birds,so a trip to the park would be fine :)
As a fellow citizen of the West Midlands I can assure you there are far more dangerous things lurking in Birmingham than a few dodgy ducks!
