For the last couple of days my computer (both Windows XP and the Internet) have been painfully slow. I have run a couple of virus checks and spyware checks but nothing found. I checked and there are no windows updates due either.

Any ideas?

Slow operation for no explainable reason is usually due to adware/trojans.

First delete temporary internet files, from tools, select internet options and delete cookies and delete files.

search for files ending in tmp, start, search all files and folders, put *.tmp in the file name box.

Delete all tmp files, any that cannot be deleted are the offending files.

If you get tmp files that cannot be deleted, make a note of their location and reboot in safe mode by pressing F8 on boot and try again.

Run msconfig and click startup, disable anything that looks like it doesn't belong, especially random arrangements of letters.

Download and install microsoft antispyware and do a full scan.
