Hi all

I've got an Acer V3-571 laptop with the above fault. I've checked all the drivers, none of which reported needing updating. The audio speaker tests are all ok (when the audio is working!). A reboot sometimes restores the audio.
Has anyone any ideas on this?

many thanks.

When the audio isn't working and you perform a test, do you get an error message - if so, what is the message ??
I'm just wondering if you have the same problem that I recently had with my Asus laptop.

No Gizmonster, there's no error message. Test works fine when the audio is working otherwise there's nothing from the speaker.
Hmm ... different problem to mine, although the solution may be the same.

Run a system file checker to see what's going on:
Find the command prompt - right click on it and click "run as administrator"
(To find the command prompt, search for cmd ... you're looking for a file called cmd.exe)
At the command prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This may find damaged/corrupt files and repair them.
It may come back with the message, "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them" .... we'll cross that bridge if that happens - try running the sfc and see if that helps :)
Just out of curiosity, see if the following offers a temporary fix:

The next time the sound isn't working, open device manager >>> sound video and game controllers. Right click on the audio (mine says, "Realtek high definition audio" but yours may be different) and click "disable". Give it a few seconds to reset itself, then go back into it and right click and select "enable".
On mine, this brought the sound back on, although it's not a permanent fix - just wondering if you've got a similar problem that I had ??
