Phone rang at 6.30pm when I answered a voice said 'connecting you one moment please' I hung up and dialled 1471. Then I rang the number. An American voice said 'this number is not in service'. Anyone else had anything similar or know what it's about.

Yes Daffy, but if the number is not in service, how did they ring from it and who are they?

good evening Jeza

if i may digress - how is mic these days? (if it is okay to ask)
Question Author
Evening Excel. Thanks for asking. Mic is no better or no worse. He is struggling with his breathing but that should get better when the hot weather goes. There is a little improvement in his speech but not much and he still cannot control a pen or a fork or such like. The Doc said he doesn't think he will see any improvement. Very sad to say the least.

my thoughts are with him
It's probably ...

The number in Pontefract is in service, but it redirects to a number that's no longer in service.
Question Author
Thanks Ellipsis. I just wish I new who it is.
Most likely some company or other that was going to try and sell you something.
Jeza, why bother? There are so many scams out there.
Question Author
You are probably right Naomi.
Forget it, Jeza. :o)
Sometimes the scam is just aimed at making you 1471 and try to ring the number - a few seconds on a £5/min line will make them a small amount. Repeat x 60 million and they net enough to make it worth the setup costs.
