hi, i have got a computer at home which i think is extremely slow. its a few years old now but when we first got it it was much quicker than it is now.. i have tried creating more memory but removing most of the installed software, i regularly defrag it etc but i was wondering whether there is something that you can do to make your computer quicker? I have a windows 95 pc, im not sure what other details you would need to know so if anybody can help and they need to know more then I can try to give you more info. I know this is quite a random question without much details but im just confused lol. also is it just a case that my computer is old and i need a new 1? Thanks a lot

The sledgehammer approach which will inconvenience you but definitely work is to format the hard drive and reinstall your operating system.
There are other ways round it that mean that you don't delete all the info you've got saved.

cool, so thats a case of bascially removing everything and then loading on software that i would need? sory im not that good with the technical side of computers!

before you wipe everything, try installing an anti-virus program. scan the whole PC and remove all viruses it finds. Then download and install a program called AdAware (www.lavasoftusa.com) which finds spyware and other nasty bugs that slow PC's down.

The best way to speed any PC up though, is by adding more memory (RAM) - the more you have, the speedier the PC.

As a side point, I've no idea how powerful your PC is, but running Windows 95 is not good. It is a very old and insecure operating system. If the PC can manage it, try and install Windows 2000 or XP. If the PC cannot run those operating systems, it's probably time for a new PC. Dell have some great deals at the moment. You can get brand new PC's from 199 (http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&id=dimen&l=en&s=dhs).
