Why is it that sometimes when there appears to be a strong wireless connection available, I try to connect to the Internet, but the computer wants me to connect through my phone line, whereas at other times it allows me to connect through the wireless connection?

It may be that the wireless connection you're trying to connect with doesn't have a stable enough gateway to point to, and therefore can't find access to the internet sometimes. Or, more likely, it could be Windows throwing one of its regular wobblies.

You can stop it from trying to dial up all the time by going to the "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer and clicking "Internet Options...", and then going to the "Connections" tab and clicking on the radio button next to "Never dial a connection". Click OK to save the changes, and it will stop asking you to connect via modem.

Remember, you'll need to change this back if you do want to use your modem to dial up occasionally.
