For the last few days, every ten minutes or so a warning box appears saying 'Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close'. It gives me the option of sending an error report. Whether I do or not, It closes down windows. I have run my anti-virus and thats ok. I have run ad-aware and deleted the items found. I have also run system mechanic and got rid of junk files and I have also defragmented my system. Still the error keeps occuring. I dont know what is wrong with this computer, please help!

the important part of the error message is 'micosoft ******* ***** has encountered a prob...'
Without knowing what is closing its hard to diagnose, it sounds like Explorer is crashing though. go to you control panel, click on windows update and check that you have installed all the latest patches. them post if the problem persists.
You don't mention which version of System Mechanic. Both I and one of my colleagues encountered numerous, apparently random crashes after upgrading to the latest version. So you might want to just check that out!

I have just updated windows. At first I thought it had worked, but after a couple of minutes the box came up again. Is there any way I can find out what is causing it?

Sorry Rojash, how do I find out what version of system mechanic I have?
Try starting system mechanic then click on Help, then About. You should get the version number from there.

Just checked it, I have version 4.0k. Is that any good? I seem to have the worst trouble with that microsoft problem box when I try and log into my emails. Any ideas?

Just a thought... does Windows give you a countdown timer before it reboots? Does it only happen when you have an internet connection running? If so you could be affected by the Sasser worm.

If that's what's happening, your system will need patching, and you will need to use a removal tool to get rid of the worm. Go here http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.mspx to find out how to go about all of that. If you have XP SP2 though, you should be immune to this problem.
