Don't bother. You'll smell like a dog after a week and when you stop you'll put all the weight back on.

oh please dont it is awful. if you want to try a diet try slimming world. it's no fad diet and i've lost a stone and a half since the end of november on it. atkins i tried for a day and that was enough. i couldn't get used to eating all that fat.

I tried it, i lost a couple of pounds in about a fortnight, its great because you get to eat all the things that are not allowed on other diets.......But i soon got fed up (not literally), i felt unhealthy and so lethargic. I've since been back to slimming world for the first time last week and have eaten carbs the whole week (and a full bottle of red to myself on sat night) with the odd taste of protein and i lost 3 pounds. By all means try it and see for yourself, everyone is different. I purchased the Atkins book to see how to do it, it goes into detail about blood sugar levels etc and checking with your doctor first before you try the diet. It also has menu ideas and recipes, I got it second hand fairly cheap on ebay. Good luck with whatever you decide.
The Atkins Diet was the worst I've ever done. I lost 10lbs in a week (can't be good) and put it all back on again in a week after eating 'normally'! I felt terrible and if I knelt on the floor, couldn't get back up again- I was so weak. Good luck with your diet though x

I agree with Spanner, Slimming World is the best club. I lost 3 stone after struggling with my weight all my life and I have managed to keep it off by still attending my local club. I treat it as a social evening and have made lots of new friends. Good Luck.

PS There is a good web site and it will give you the name of your nearest consultant

I agree with the rest of these answers - really not the best of diets, unless you've got major will power - and cash! Not cheap eating that much meat! But, I bought an Atkins cook book from Tesco, it's about ten quid and has lots of intersting ideas, like cheese stuffed beef burgers - v nice! Just make sure that you eat as much veg as the diet will allow if you're intent! And take vitamin suppliments. Good luck!
Dr Atkins was obese and died of a heart attack - wonder if he followed his own diet.

The only way to lose weight is to consume fewer calories. You don't need to sign up for anything unless you want the support and information that it brings.

Have just lost a stone in 5 weeks by eating more sensibly. Cutting down on portion size and eating slowly. Have cut right back on fat and now eat loads of veg and salad (not a great love of fruit). I am drinking lots of water too. A bowl of porridge made with low fat milk every morning is really satisfying. I eat most things still, but just in moderation. The weight is coming off slowly and surely and I feel loads better.

Sensible eating and slow weight loss is far better than any fancy diets. I believe Slimming World and Weight Watchers are both good organisations if you need support.
