Further to my mini rant regards to SKY I can confirm we are now Best Friends I was offered a superb deal for all my problems.
On the subject of the old Box which has programmes still on it 2 of which I desperately want to keep to watch at a later date.It seems that the old Box cannot be used even if it is connected as it has to marry with the technical information that they have at SKY.
Do you have a spare SKY Box ? ,what do you use it for can the disc inside be copied?.
Thank you InaMo

Unfortunately, the only options for copying recorded programmes from an active SkyHD box is to use a DVD recorder or video recorder connected to the SCART socket. You can then copy to either in real time only, which basically means you have to let the programme playback on your SkyHD box whilst you record it to DVD or video. There is a USB port on the SkyHD box but sadly, at this moment in time, this is not functional and cannot be used to transfer recordings directly to a memory stick or separate hard drive... Oh how that would make life so much easier!

Forgot to add:- You do need to do this BEFORE you upgrade to a new SkyHD box otherwise once your Sky card has been "married" to your new box, you'll no longer be able to access the recordings on your old one (unless there comes a time in the future when you need to revert back to your old SkyHD box and have your card paired back to that one).
Not quite true, you can copy recorded programmes over to a different box using this http://www.skycopyplus.co.uk/

You do have to open up the sky boxes and connect the hard drives to your PC so it depends how brave you are feeling.
