Just had the most awful exchange of words with my partner's son ( 21 ) who thinks my health should not stop me working and I should therefor get a job and not be in receipt of benefit. Up until 5 years ago I was working until my health deteriorated to the point I had to give it up. I have various issues not helped by him and his ignorance. Feeling so alone and desperately unhappy right now. Rant over.

No one call feel another's pain and that is a lesson he will learn at some point.

The thing about being female at any stage of your life is that you are the recipient of every other nosey beggar's opinions. I am sorry your OH didn't get on his back legs and shut the blighter up. If you want to win by irritation I woudl chat on loudly when the youngster is around about how useless I am, how very lazy I am, and how much I need someone to tell me exactly where I've gone wrong, where's my notebook I'll need to jot this down etc etc.

I know what he said probably hurt you deeply, but just ignore him if you can. He will be like some people out there, who suddenly get a job and get all high and mighty over their tax money going to someone who is on benefits due to ill health, even though it is not their fault.

Having seen a family member suffer due to ill health everyday, I have an understanding of how hard it can be. He might not understand what you are going through, but there are people out there who do.
