We keep on hearing about celebrities and the various assault/rape cases they are being taken to court over. I cannot understand why the people involved are claiming multiple cases of assault by the same person - if it happened, and they did not want it to, why keep on going back to the same person for it to happen again? Several of the people mentioned over the past few days have claimed that it happened again and again, ten or more times - were they that stupid or blind that they did not realise that?
It is like going back for medicine you don't like or want.

Grooming.
children don't have any power, and many may think that the person has some feelings for them, they trust far more readily than an adult, and if threats of death, or harm to their families, and being told they won't be believed, would likely mean they don't say anything.
not to mention that these cases go back decades, people who were famous, like Savile, people trusted them, and he is no different in that respect, a jolly man, artist and bon viveur,
adults can be swayed by this, so think what a child would do. tell someone and be branded a liar, and who would ever think that a childrens entertainer could do such a thing, Savile, Hall, you wouldn't believe it then, but now things have changed, shame that its taken so long
It depends on how old they were.....how mature or immature perhaps and it depends on the circumstances.
weren't many children?
I think so, Emmie.....and sadly I know only too well how it can happen again and again without being stupid or blind.
i have to second that Gness. It happens very close to home!
It does, Puss....and if you are being brought up to "respect" your elders and do as you're told....and if the adult threatens you and you think you won't be believed because you're the child.....what the hell do you do?
its very sad when a 12 yr old keeps it all inside and never tells in fear of it breaking up all family relations. This 12 yr old is still suffering very badly .
(Not me). yrs later.
It depends who the abuser is. If it is/was someone you have little contact with then they are easy to avoid but if it's your best mates dad or someone close to the family, they are not so easy to avoid. The dilemma is then...what do you do?

Talking about sexual abuse is soul destroying, embarrassing, humiliating. In my case, if I refused to go to the place where the abuse happened my dad would have known something was wrong. If I told him what was wrong I knew there would be bloodshed. Too much guilt and pressure on a child when you know speaking out could devastate so many people and divide friends and family.

It was another victim that spoke out against my abuser. The police were useless and I can completely understand why girls never followed up their complaints.

All these years later, if I were watching TV and seen my abuser had been arrested, I would come forward. No bandwagon to jump on, no interest in compensation, just to confirm he is guilty of the things he's accused of.
