Hello

About a month ago I was told me Iron was quite low and the doc put me on some Iron tablets which I take three times a day. I finished the box prescribed and was still wiped out most of the time so have bought another over the counter and continued taking three a day. I am now nearing the end of the second box and feel not much better. Also trying to eat better etc...

How long does it usually take for your levels to 'normalise'?

Thanks

Low iron levels are predominantly due to iron deficiency anaemia and return to normal when your aneamia is treated.

I remember your posts previously and i assumed that your anaemia was corrected but your iron levels remained low(ish).

You have finished two months of iron therapy by mouth and i would suggest that you ask your GP for repeat blood tests including iron levels.

The symptoms that you describe may well have nothing to do with a low total body iron level.

Thanks Sqad. I think you're right re the repeat blood test. I assumed, maybe wrongly that the low Iron was due to all the PPI's I was taking for such a long period of time. I have read that they can reduce you body's Iron intake. I am now PPI free although not symptom free but still really tired all the time and I get those awful cracks in the side of my mouth which are painful and rarely heal.

Will see the doc again as you say.
