moments before it was due to take place, as the family decided
to forgive him, this was in Iran, the photo's were quite harrowing, so wasn't sure if i should post the link, makes me think our own justice system
has something in it's favour.
I really am against the death penalty. It doesn't deter others from committing similar crimes and doesn't actually "punish" the offender (as when you are dead you cannot repent, regret or rehabilitate). Please do post the link, emmie. I'm sure if someone reads your question properly they will realise that the link is graphic and can chose not to open it.
emmie - it depends how long the punishment is - yes you would be 'anxious ' thinking that you're about to be hanged and ( by their method ) you will hang around ( pardon the pun ) a while before you finally depart and suffer pain .
However it will not last for a great while , before you depart .
However , are we not talking about 'punishment ' here , as in , long term punishment , where the offender has to conciously endure .
it was the photo's that brought me up short, with a noose around his neck, the moment of his ending, it is still quite disturbing, that the last moment he is given his life back.
The person hanged is dead within 3 seconds if the noose is correctly placed, from what I understand. it immediately severs blood to the brain. The same length of time as if you were beheaded, so you do actually see your head drop into the basket.
I do not support the death penalty, I think the the perpetrator should suffer for his crimes, death is the easy way out. I know that if ever I was in that position I would choose death over a life long prison term.
this is Iran, not sure as sandyr points out they have the same method of dispatch as say we would have done once, its the reprieve at the last moment that got me thinking
