Anything by Anne Tyler. Ladder of Years is one of my favourites.
Also, Mary Wesley.
Chasing The Dime by Michael Connelly.

(All of his are brilliant, ......read in date order. The Black Echo is first.)

I do believe I prefer him to Lee Child now.
I really enjoy the mysteries written by P.D. James. Fantastic style of writing.
Jeffrey Deaver. His Lincoln Rhyme novels are brilliant.
The funniest book in the English language, 'Three Men in a Boat' (Jerome K Jerome) or 'To the Baltic with Bob: An Epic Misadventure' (Griff Rhys Jones)
I am reading some of the "Blandings" books by P G Woodhouse and am really enjoying them. Not as laugh-out-loudd as the Jeeves books, but still a good read.
