Does anyone believe the MOD should fund a sperm bank for personnel going into theatre in the event they lose their testicles in an IED attack?

For those not familiar with the story I'll keep on noodling for a link.

We spend thousands of pounds making individual prisoners comfortable in this country, surely we can spend some money on our servicemen to help them have families in the event of a serious injury or death?

Maybe the MOD could help subsidise sperm and egg freezing, if not pay for it outright?
I agree with 237's point.

I didn't know you worked for Tesco mikey!
I cannot see an incident where the only damage done by an IED is to the testicles alone. more likely the rest of the genitalia is useless and perhaps loss of limb and other injuries.

After an initial emotional upset by the girlfriend or spouse, the relationship would almost certainly flounder and an " offspring" would either be an inconvenience or an unwanted reminder of a disabled partner, long displaced.

A bad idea.

It is one of my grumpy subjects.

This in the same category as the girlfriend who fought for a widows pension to support the child she had had with a soldier in the course of a long standing relationship. I have never got to the bottom of how she managed to get a pay out!
Well, my offer still stands but the MOD had better hurry. Its getting harder to produce enough these days ( Oh...sorry ! )
No I don't, knowing the MOD (and I do) they'd franchise out the storing to some private company who'd fleece them way over the odds and probably get it mixed up anyway. Family Friendly policy a step too far.
I've got a three star freezer at home, but I'm not sure that would be good enough.
yes. why not?

it could be funded by tony blair. it's his fault they were sent there in the first place.
What ? It was Blair's fault that we went into Afghanistan ? Wasn't the reason the UN went into Afghanistan all to do with the murderous, uneducated and uncivilised Taliban and Al-Qaeda ? The organisations that thinks it a good idea to shoot schoolgirls in the head, just because they want to go to school ?
I see military charities mentioned twice in this thread. I would hazard a guess that said charities are quite strapped for cash at the moment with the added burden of supporting servicemen/women (and their families) who have already lost limbs thanks to these evil devices.

I would think twice before I gave to any charity supporting service personnel that funded the sperm banks.
I'd have no objection to it, I know they choose to join up but if everyone said no then we'd see a return to conscription or be defenceless. I'd rather they had their babies.
