Try downloading, installing and running the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/free/
(NB: When installing, deselect the option to install a trial of the 'PRO' version. Use the 'quick scan' when running it and don't be surprised if it takes over half an hour. When it finishes, click to see the results and click again to delete everything found).

After using Malwarebytes, go to the page that you want to use as your home page (by entering the URL into your browser's address bar). Then go into your browser's options as select 'Use current' for your home page.

I've done that but still it persists, it's taken over my homepage and all my shortcuts have to go through that page first.. I think it is ak.sss.img..hidden window html I am clueless!
Once you've cleaned the computer, turn off system restore befor you restart, then scan again after the restart. Only turn back on system restore when that scan is clean.
Try booting your computer into Safe Mode (by pressing F8 during the start-up process) and then running Malwarebytes again.

I have windows 8, sony vaio, laptop, firefox as to the rest I do not know. It is a new homepage and I cannot access any of my shortcuts, I have rebooted and scanned and it still persists.
CCleaner can be used to automatically repair internet browser settings startup up settings, and uninstall the Default-Search.net hijacker and associated third-party software.

Thank you everyone, still not a lot of hope. I can use the laptop but cannot make shortcuts, and for some reason cannot start in safe mode. The windows key +c doesn't work. But fear not, I shall persevere, I hate being beaten, but up to now I have as far as I am aware, done all and everything suggested on here.
