They'll have your best interests at heart.
I would be furious too.
My mother is the nosiest woman on the planet. She honestly doesn't think she is, her mother is almost as bad and my mum is always complaining about it!

Let the dust settle on the argument, and in future make sure you don't leave anything about that you wouldn't want them to see.
They are totally wrong and however much they worry, you are a grown man and your finances are your issue.

Try not to let it cause a family rift - just keep paperwork out of sight in future.
When my mother was alive I wouldn't have dreamt of leaving anything lying around where she could snoop.
Are you a grown up? I'd have been furious too.
If you leave it lying round then I think it's human nature/natural curiosity for them to have taken a peek. I do however think they were well out of order to comment about your spending, not worth having a massive row about though, just something to make clear to them, politely and with a smile, that it's none of their blooming business.
Switch to on line banking so there is no danger of them seeing your private financial affairs.
Just a comment (I don't think what they did was right).
Do they help you out financially, in which case they may think they have a vested interest in how you spend your money?
Is this a statement ,do you want a balanced view , don't see the profit in having a row .If you dont figure it out on you should withdraw in the interests of the family .Speak to your mother and teller .
If I may be bold and give some back history (Sorry Gordie, but you have shared with us) it may be that given your past financial difficulties they have real concerns - it doesn't make what they did right , but our children are always our children and we worry.
I wouldn't like it but if they have been involved in advising you in your previous financial issues (which are well documented on here) and have helped out financially (they may not have done of course) then it's not too surprising that they want to continue to give advice
Oh dear, a major personal series of secrets has slipped out of control.....to your parents. What a catastrophe ! Your life is now over.

Of course if you are trying to hide serious misdemeanors you must be absolutely devastated. Otherwise, get over it - if this is as bad as it gets you should celebrate and invite your parents to the party. If your parents are not to be part of your life on a mutually tolerant/open basis then consider breaking off relations - but my guess is that you realise that is not really in your or your children's interest.
I'd be peeved, but then I wouldn't have left it out in the first place....probably not worth having a flaming row about IMO.
Bit rude but not worth falling out over.
