I have a rather old Panasonic TV in my bedroom but cannot get it to produce any sound, although I feel sure it did once upon a time! I’ve tried all the controls and get pictures, texts and sub-headings but no sound. AV appears in the corner of the screen which I think means Audio Visual and is possibly something to do with it. Can anyone please advise me how to deal with this. Thank you.
AV would be an indication of the signal source, I think. Are you running via a Freeview box ? Can only suggest looking at the setting pages for the box & TV. Otherwise it's an unhelpful, "it's broken", suggestion, and wonder if checking connections/leads might help.
I assume you're using an external freeview box (if the TV is old it won't have a digital tuner) - so it's probably the scart lead from the freeview box not making proper contact (bent or dirty pins).
Take the scart lead out of the TV and the freeview box, have a look for obvious pin damage in the end of the connectors, then put it back in 'the other way round' - that often makes a clean new contact & stuff magically works again.
I'm glad you had a chuckle! I'm thinkng perhaps I should have posted my query under Electronics rather then Computers but perhaps they have something in common.
