I read on the net that in December, before the release of Return of the King, some cinemas in the US will be showing extended versions of the first two films followed by ROTK in one long marathon run. Is this gonna happen in England too? Cos that would really make my year.

Might happen in Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland as well!
that's over 9 hours - do they allow you to cook something up whilst you're watching or do you bring 40 rounds of sandwiches with you?....
The films won't be shown back to back as such. From most sources I've heard they follow a plan like this: "Fellowship"" at 3pm, "Two Towers" at 7pm, "Return of the King" at 11pm. If you see, there will be short breaks between each film to get some food and have a walk. Also, even if they DID try to do it truely back to back, it would take some time for them to change reels between movies.
