"I hate being unemployed, all I want is to work and get money to live a comfortable life. I was in a job for 10 years before I was made In employment for 10 years. This man was not a shirker. I think it says more about the person who stopped his benefit than it does about Mr Paul Hyde

brenda you would need to claim and have to watch the video at the job training session to understand the view of having a tattoo on show and how it lowers your chance of a job

i know people who have had to attend and watch the video and the job trainer does not like to hear negative remarks about what he says
He may not have put painter and decorator, because he's happy to consider other options. My sister and i started a business without putting money in. In his position, i would do as Naomi suggests and get the customers to get the materials.
Well I hope that someone does employ him. I can't think of a more ''active'' way of seeking work than walking the streets wearing a placard. Good on him!!
Ummmm, I didn't suggest it was easy, but trying to help yourself has got to be preferable to waiting for others to help you. Getting tradesmen to do private jobs these days is difficult. There is work out there for them. Simply saying it can't be done is defeatist. It can be done.
Dr --I agree with what you say, tattoos can be unhelpful in job seeking .So does it need commenting on by others on AB?

brenda trust me if i was forced to watch that video i think that job trainer would get more negative remarks in 30 minutes from me than he gets in
a normal week
You do make it sound easy, Naomi. If he doesn't have transport how is he suppose to get to work?

One of the jobs I had had a dress code. I had to buy new clothes before I started. I wouldn't have been able to do that if I were on benefits. There are more obstacles put in peoples way than you realise.
Ummmm, it's a mistake to assume you know what I 'realise'. I'm not someone who waits for other people to make things happen, that's all.
Chap that decorated my flat didn't have a van. He was recommended to me, came over and priced up the job, gave me a list of the materials I needed to get, which I did. He then turned up every day on time until the job was finished and if the weather was fine he walked and if it wasn't he got the bus. If he needs to get ladders and planks and stuff to a customer's property he says his mate will drop it round for him. I don't think anything would phase him; he's got a 'Can Do' attitude which stands him in good stead. Good for him.
Tebbitt would have told him to get on his bike. There are some areas of very high unemployment. Are people expected to post 5 CVs every week in order to get their benefits?
